Joyce Mercedes’ star is rapidly rising, in particular in the past few years. She has grown into a dance floor hypnotizer, taking control of any dance floor which is in reach of her turntables. Funky, techy, soulful, tribal and psychedelic are key words in Joyce’s musical dictionary. Her overfilled agenda Is an evidence of her talent. Dutch Vixen Joyce Mercedes is without doubt, currently the top female dj globally. Christmas eve finds her hitting the decks of Club 22 with her Hypnotizing Tech/Progressive-House vibes.
It's not uncommon for her to make a presence in different continents within a period as short as a month. Each and every weekend this DJ packs her records to travel to often warm and usually distant destinations. In the first half of 2005 Joyce has already visited over 20 different countries, a number which would probably blow the minds of many established DJ's. Some name her the best female progressive house DJ in the world and as such she has shared the stage with the likes of Sasha, Anthony Pappa, James Holden, Paul van Dyk, Chris Fortier and Derrick May. In 2005 her own musical career has also taken off, after a successful debut at festivals such as Dance Valley and Impulz.
Joyce successfully finished the Athenaeum school and decided to follow this up with a study in economics. During this study, she commenced, in her place of birth Nijmegen, work as a dancer for leading organizations such as Pantera and Extension. When her dancing act became a success she decided to move to Amsterdam, and this move was quickly followed by the "Strycker and Holmes World Tour", during which Joyce and her colleague gave spicy dance shows in the world's best clubs. During this period she also discovered a passion for singing.
In a more recent past, Joyce was part of the "Centerfold" singing act, and performed in a full Amsterdam Arena stadium during halftime of the Ajax-PSV soccer finals. Playboy magazine celebrated their 15-year anniversary with a Centerfold performance as well. Besides the Centerfold jobs, Joyce also did regular modellingwork, and was hired for advertising campaigns for brands such as Heineken, Campari, Gap-Star and Playboy. As her main passion was still music, Joyce M decided to purchase a set of turntables and study the art of the DJ. Her debut was to be in sunny Miami, Florida during a private party. After her debut her popularity at the booking agencies grew, culminating in a residency in the popular nightclub SupperClub in Amsterdam and the 2-year long "Space World Tour" as a temporary crown on her achievements. Currently Joyce can pride herself on entertaining the crowds as a DJ in almost all of the large foreign nightclubs in Europe, North America, South America and Asia.
Without trying to push Joyce in the "purist" corner, progressive house in its purest form definitely flows through her veins. Her excellent choice of records is evidence of a fine sense of quality and her above average DJ skill is the result of her natural talent and determination. With a varied style, now and then easy and accessible - not afraid to put on a vocal track - but often also deep and trippy, she has grown into a dancefloor hypnotizer, taking control of any dancefloor which is in reach of her turntables. Funky, techy, soulful, tribal, trancy and psychedelic are key words in Joyce's musical dictionary. The reason that her fiery ambition to produce her own music has only materialized this year is because she always aims high, also in the recording studio. In 2004 she successfully completed the "Audio Engineering" study at SAE Institute Amsterdam, immediately followed by the more specialized "Electronic Music Production" program, also at SAE.
"The first release is not a matter of 'if', but 'when'", says Joyce. "Producing is really quite intensive work and because my agenda is so full with DJ gigs, I was forced to make choices and set priorities".
Expect her first 12" soon!
